Objectives (course unit)

After completing the study unit, the student is able to
- demonstrate knowledge of the legislation, regulations and instructions directing the education and apply them to their work
- identify their organisation’s implementation model for special support, as well as documents related to special support
- use appropriate methods to chart the need for support, assess their usability and apply them to their work
- cooperate multiprofessionally while charting needs for special support and guidance and use the appropriate networks
- use the charting as a starting point for planning a student’s individual study path
- develop students’ methods of special support and learning in various learning environments
- actively plan support measures together with the students and various networks.

Content (course unit)

During this study unit, we will seek to answer the following questions:
- How do you use the legislation and regulations that direct education and the instructions of the arranging party in the work of a professional special needs teacher?
- What kinds of learning challenges and needs for support do professional special needs teachers encounter in their work?
- Which methods are used for charting support for learning?
- How do you make conclusions about arranging the student’s individual study path based on the charting?
- How do you plan the necessary support measures together with the student and the networks?

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

The student passes the study unit if they have demonstrated competencies described in the learning outcomes. If the student has not achieved the learning outcomes or supplemented their competencies in the manner agreed on, they will fail the study unit. The grounds for the assessment criteria are described in the document ‘Pedagogical principles in professional Special Needs Teacher Education’. The assessment criteria is derived from the learning outcomes presented in the implementation plan for the study unit.
