Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is able to plan, implement and evaluate the monitoring of the client's health, well-being and study ability in cooperation with the client and, if necessary, his/her significant others
- is able to guide and support clients for health promoting choices and life management
- is able to guide and support clients in maintaining their ability to study
- is able to respond to the most common medical needs of clients
- is able to evaluate the need for special support and further care of the client in cooperation with the client and, if necessary, the multidisciplinary student health group
- is able to maintain and promote the health and well-being of the learning environment in collaboration with clients, their significant others and other actors

Content (course unit)

- psychosocial development of juveniles and young adults
- student public health nursing
- periodic health examinations for students
- student health counselling (individual and group level)
- students' most common health problems (youth medicine)
- early detection of mental disorders, care and follow-up guidance
- early detection, treatment and follow-up treatment of substance abuse problems
- promoting students’ sexual health
- student health care as part of public health nursing
- working methods: mini-intervention, anticipation dialogues (multidisciplinary work)

Prerequisites (course unit)

Completed clinical studies in both nursing and anatomy and physiology (135 credits).

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student
- manages the key contents of the student's periodic health examinations
- has the right knowledge but facts are unattached at a level of recognition, and the reasons are inadequate
- observes the examination of the student's health only from a limited point of view
- perceives inadequately the specific needs of an individual student

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student
- is able to use evidence-based knowledge and is able to explain issues from many different perspectives
- is able to use the client’s perspective in a versatile way
- is able to identify the most important special needs of a student
- understands the role of the student health service as part of public health nursing
- understands the importance of viewing student well-being from the perspective of the well-being of the student community

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student
- is able to reflect the student's situation holistically based on the evidence-based knowledge and demonstrates the ability to support the student individual and extensively
- is able to identify specific needs and to demonstrate extensive ability for follow-up and continuity of care
- knows extensively the management of working methods
- is able to utilise the multiprofessional approach
- is able to comprehensively reflect students' well-being from the perspective of the study community’s well-being

- hallitsee opiskelijoiden määräaikaisten terveystarkastusten keskeiset sisällöt
- osaa oikeaa tietoa, mutta asiat irrallisia, toteavalla tasolla ja perustelut ovat puutteellisia
- tarkastelee opiskelijan terveyttä rajoittuneesti vain tietystä näkökulmasta
- hahmottaa yksittäisen opiskelijan erityistarpeet puutteellisesti

Opiskelija
- osaa käyttää tutkittua tietoa ja osaa perustella asioita monesta eri näkökulmasta
- osaa käyttää asiakasnäkökulmaa monipuolisesti

- ymmärtää opiskeluhuollon osana terveydenhoitajatyötä
- ymmärtää opiskelijoiden hyvinvoinnin tarkastelun merkityksen opiskeluyhteisön hyvinvoinnin näkökulmasta

Opiskelija
- osaa tarkastella opiskelijan tilannetta kokonaisvaltaisesti tutkittuun tietoon pohjautuen ja osoittaa valmiuksia opiskelijan yksilölliseen tukemiseen laaja-alaisesti
- osaa tunnistaa erityistarpeita ja osoittaa laajoja valmiuksia erityistarpeiden seurantaan ja jatkohoitoon
- osaa laajasti työmenetelmien hallinnan
- osaa hyödyntää moniammatillista otetta
- osaa tarkastella laaja-alaisesti opiskelijoiden hyvinvointia opiskeluyhteisön hyvinvoinnin näkökulmasta
