Objectives (course unit)

The student knows the forest resources of Finland and also global forest resources. The student knows the change in global forestry during the last decades. The student knows the importance of forest sector in society and also the importance of forest biodiversity and multiple use of forests globally.

Assessment criteria - fail (0) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

The student fails the final exam and/or doesn´t participate in the group work presentation and/or is not present on the lectures (minimum 9 times of the total 12 times)

Assessment criteria - satisfactory (1-2) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

The student has basic knowledge of international forestry and forest harvesting. The student´s role in his group work presentation is very moderate and/or the presentation is very basic

Assessment criteria - good (3-4) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

The student has achieved quite a lot of information of forestry in different parts of the world. He/she knows how forests and forestry differ in different parts of the world, which countries have a lot of forest industry and why, knows where plantation forestry is common and which species are used, he/she is aware of other values of forests and their role in maintaining biodiversity and in carbon cycling. The student is active during lectures and his/her role is very important in the group work presentation. The presentation itself is good.

The student has a broad picture of global forests, forests and forest industry. He/she has spent also a lot of own time in searching for information and that is why he/she has a very thorough knowledge of different topics of the course. He/she can combine information from different sources and make own synthesis of various topics. The student is very active during the lectures and the presentation he/she has made with his/her group is interesting and very well prepared.
