Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be able to use a translation memory tool independently (SDL Trados or WordFast). They will be familiar with the main functions of the programme and will be able to solve typical problems. The student will have an understanding of the principles of translation memories and understand the principles of text segmentation. The student will be able to use translation memories in translation, but also to modify, inspect, and maintain them. In addition, the student will be able to create new translation memories by aligning texts to utilise freely available translation memories and multilingual corpora in their translation work.
Content
This course covers the independent use of a translation memory programme, including all functions, settings, sharing translation memories, importing/exporting, managing translation memories, different file formats, adding parallel texts to the translation memory, text alignment, and creating and managing glossaries.
