Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be familiar with the basic principles of machine translation, various MT technologies, and evaluation methods for machine-translated texts. The student will understand the challenges and benefits of machine translation. The student will know what types of texts work best with machine translation and will be able to evaluate the feasibility of post-editing machine-translated texts. They will understand the roles and responsibilities of a post-editor in a translation process where machine translation is utilised. The student will be familiar with the differences between light and full post-editing. They will be able to post-edit machine-translated texts written in both their A and B working languages.

Content

This course explores machine translation technology, evaluation methods for machine-translated texts, light and full post-editing, post-editing using both A and B work languages, the roles and responsibilities of post-editing, and ethical issues related to machine translation.
