Objectives

Managing the Profitability of Retailing (5 ECTS) concludes the Retail Trade and Entrepreneurship (15 ECTS) study module. The key point of this course is the profitability you will become familiar with in the role of a retail entrepreneur. The course begins with planning the profitability of retailing, continues with monitoring the profitability of retail trade, and ends with the analysis of financial statements. The goal is to understand which factors affect profitability and which factors can be influenced. As part of the profitability, you will become familiar with the legal aspects of the transaction as well as the management of the personnel. Knowledge management goes along with the course. The example given in the course is the K-Group, but the course offers a lot of information about the field of commerce in general as well.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student knows the most important key figures in retail sector and is able to name some ways
to develop a store department based on these figures.

The student knows of basic key figures in retail sector and knows how the store department can be developed based on these figures.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has mastered the key figures in retail sector and understands how the store department can be developed based on these figures.

Further information

Retail Trade and Entrepreneurship studies* consists of three five-credit online courses, which can be completed independently regardless of time and place.

Retail Trade and Entrepreneurship studies are offered twice a year: in spring and autumn. The courses contain up-to-date information on the field of retailing, and the K-Group serves as an example. It is recommended to start studies after completing the basic studies, you can also choose only the course you want to study. The aim of these studies is to bring up-to-date knowledge in the field of retailing also from the perspective of entrepreneurship for the career path of the future.

In these studies, you progress through a variety of tasks. The tasks are diverse and require a deep focus on the topics discussed. Tasks take time, but by completing them you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the retailing industry and work tasks.

There are no lectures in the course, and all assignments are completed independently online. The grade consists of a review of the training and various tasks, such as exam questions, discussions and wider assignments to be returned. You will receive your own certificate for each course you complete, and you can add a certificate to your LinkedIn profile.
