Objectives

The student

- knows the postnatal progress and is able to observe recovery, involution, and lactation and can support mothers in self-care
- can recognize disturbances and mothers who need special monitoring, and is able to act in cases of disorders
- is able to observe and take care of newborns, and can identify disturbances requiring special monitoring
- can support early interaction, parental growth, and wellbeing of the family
- can guide parents in care of the newborn, breastfeeding, and breastfeeding problems
- can guide parents in family planning
- knows the content of the postpartum check-up

- postnatal recovery, involution, and lactation
- promotion of early interaction
- breastfeeding counselling, and rooming-in
- postnatal disturbances and their care
- observation and care of healthy newborns and newborns who need special monitoring
