Competence objectives
The goal of the master's degree program is to produce service business management experts. The studies increase your ability to design and develop customer-, business- and environment-oriented services and products. In addition, you can expand and deepen your personnel, marketing, sales, accounting and project skills, among other things, by choosing studies from TAMK's multidisciplinary range of alternative advanced studies.
You will learn to analyze and utilize existing research data and network with students from companies and other industries. You will also learn to use a variety of research, development and innovation methods in organizational development. You will gain qualifications in service business management, service business development and working life development.
Language of instruction
The language of instruction is mainly Finnish. Studying also requires proficiency in English.
Contents
The studies offer a combination of theory and practice, content and methods for developing working life. Advanced professional studies focus on building customer value and developing the customer experience, an environment-oriented servicescape, employee experience management, customer-oriented digital services and purchasing and sales channels. Some highlights of these themes include service design, responsibility and sustainable service delivery, the emotional atmosphere and psychological safety of the workplace, and emotional leadership, the digital service development process and lifecycle, cyber security, sales and procurement expertise, and revenue management.
Elective advanced and free-chioce studies can include master-level studies offered by TAMK or other higher education institutions according to your own goals.
Structure of studies
The scope of the studies is 90 credits and they are designed to be done in addition to the work. The studies last about 1.5 to 2.5 years. The studies consist of advanced professional studies in the degree program (30 cr), elective studies (20 cr), free-choice studies (10 cr) and a thesis (30 cr).
Studies are based on teaching times and independent work. In addition to teaching, completing a degree requires a considerable amount of time spent studying alone and in groups. Collaborative knowledge construction and sharing are an essential part of learning and the students are expected to participate in the classroom teaching.
The teaching of the compulsory advanced studies (30 cr) and the thesis (30 cr) of the degree program is generally carried out remotely (Teams, Zoom) on Thursday evenings (16.30 - 20.00), Fridays (8.00 - 16.00) or Saturdays (8.30-15.00) in about two consecutive day of the month. Completion and schedule of other studies (30 cr) is determined by the student's course choices.
Thesis
The aim of the thesis is to develop working life. It also develops and demonstrates your ability for independent, demanding research expert work, thus supporting your career development, among other things. You can do the thesis for your own employer, another client, your own company or from another need for research and development in working life.
Career opportunities
This master's degree strengthens your opportunities for research and senior management positions in the field. The degree offers diverse and extensive employment opportunities at home and abroad. The main employers include both international and local companies and projects in the tourism, accommodation, catering, food and experience industries.
Internationalization
The industry works in multicultural work environments. The international perspective is part of the studies through, among other things, content, materials and lecturers. You can include a course that includes an international trip in your studies, participate in an international exchange and focus on different aspects of internationalization in your thesis.
Cooperation with other actors
The co-operation with your workplace / background organization is close and the learning tasks of the different study courses that take place during your studies focus on the development of your own work, the development of working life organizations or TAMK's working life development projects. A multidisciplinary student community gives you the opportunity to network and exchange experiences.
Elective advanced and free-choice studies can include master-level studies offered by TAMK or other higher education institutions according to your own goals. As a degree student at TAMK, you have e.g. the opportunity to complete studies at the University of Tampere through cross-study service. You can also complete your studies at other universities of applied scineces through the national study offer (eg Campusonline.fi).
Postgraduate study opportunities
The title of the degree is the Master of Hospitality Management. This degree gives you the same eligibility for a public position or position as a university master’s degree. After your studies, you have the opportunity to apply for postgraduate studies at universities of applied sciences. The amount of supplementary studies required depends on the university in question.
