Objectives
During this course, students will explore holistically the health promotion perspective in nursing care and practice client guidance.
After completing the course, the student
• Understand promotion of holistic health and functional capacity as part of nursing care.
• Understand the philosophical, ethical and pedagogical foundations of guidance in nursing care.
• Understand the different levels of health promotion.
• Is capable of observing matters related to health and functional capacity and understand their significance for individuals and communities.
• Can reinforce an individual's commitment to self-care in promoting health and functional capacity.
• Use and evaluate appropriate guidance methods in various nursing contexts taking into account the diversity of clients and their families in interaction.
• Can utilize and assess digital opportunities in guidance and health promotion.

• Holistic promotion of health and functional capacity.
• Philosophical, ethical and pedagogical foundations of nursing guidance.
• Different levels of health promotion and strengthening equality of health.
• Resources supporting health, mental health and functional capacity and their promotion.
• Risk factors for diseases and dependencies, prevention and early intervention.
• The connection between personal emotions and attitudes to professional activities and interaction in guidance work.
• The nursing guidance process and its evaluation in different nursing situations.
• Various work methods as support for guidance, such as structured health surveys, mini-intervention, coaching guidance methods and teach-back method.
• Digital guidance and communication in nursing and health promotion.
Prerequisites
30 ects of first year studies completed, including Pharmacotherapy and Medical Calculations.

The student
• Understands how to observe and promote holistic health and functional capacity-related issues from the perspective of individuals and communities.
• Understands the philosophical, ethical, and pedagogical foundations of nursing guidance in general terms.
• Knows how to strengthen an individual's commitment to self-care in promoting health and functional capacity.
• Can use situation-appropriate guidance methods in various nursing contexts, considering clients and their families.
• Can utilize digital possibilities in nursing guidance and health promotion.
