Objectives

Objective:
Completing this course provides you essential knowledge in anatomy and physiology relevant to the work of dental hygienists. The knowledge acquired in this course will be applied in later studies.

Upon completion of the study module, the student:
• is able to identify and locate organs.
• is able to explain the structure and function of organs and organ systems relevant to the work of dental hygienists.
• is able to understand mechanisms regulating bodily functions.
• is able to explain the key organs and structures of the immune system, as well as the main functions of cells.
• is able to define and utilize concepts related to anatomy and physiology.
• is able to apply the knowledge gained from anatomy and physiology studies in subsequent studies.

Content

• Structure and function of the circulatory and immune systems, respiratory, digestive, and urinary systems, reproduction.
• Regulatory systems of the body
• In outline, the structure and function of the musculoskeletal system and sensory functions

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can identify and locate organs and define the basic functions of organs and organ systems relevant to the profession. The student can define the functioning of regulatory systems of the body at a general level. They are familiar with the key anatomical terms.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student can name and locate organs. The student can thoroughly explain the structure and function of organs and organ systems relevant to the work of dental hygienists and explain the regulatory mechanisms of bodily functions accurately. The student can define and use anatomical and physiological concepts fluently. They are familiar with the key organs and structures of the immune system, as well as the main functions of cells. The student can define and use anatomical and physiological concepts.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to a good level, the student understands the structure and function of organs and organ systems as part of the human physical entity and comprehends the mutual influence of different organs and organ systems. The student can use and understand anatomical and physiological terminology extensively.
