Student knows, how the structure and thus the physical and chemical properties of a material can be changed by using different methods, heat treatment beeing a prime example of that.

Properties and use of technical materials: steels, cast-irons, non ferrous metals, ceramics, composites, polymer- and elastomer-materials and biomaterials. Elastic and plastic deformation, phase changes and phase diagrams. Material testing methods and standards.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Is able to identify and define technical materials and manufacturing techniques.
Knows a variety of materials and manufacturing methods, but there is still to be learned in the rationale for choices.
