Objectives (course unit)
Student knows the properties of different material groups and additionally he is able to choose the proper material. Student knows, how the structure and thus the physical and chemical properties of a material can be changed by using different methods, heat treatment beeing a prime example of that.
Content (course unit)
Properties and use of technical materials: steels, cast-irons, non ferrous metals, ceramics, composites, polymer- and elastomer-materials and biomaterials. Elastic and plastic deformation, phase changes and phase diagrams. Material testing methods and standards.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
Is able to identify and define technical materials and manufacturing techniques.
Knows a variety of materials and manufacturing methods, but there is still to be learned in the rationale for choices.
Works in a group. Identify your interpersonal skills. Identify important practices for your industry.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
Is able to structure the properties and manufacturing techniques of different materials in relation to each other.
Is able to choose the most appropriate procedure for different material options and manufacturing techniques and justify their choice. Is able to cooperate responsibly and is ready to develop their interaction skills.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
Comprehensive understanding of the properties and manufacturing techniques of materials used in mechanical engineering. Can choose materials that are suitable or suitable for a particular structure and create new solutions. Can work in a responsible, flexible and constructive way. Develops both your own and group interaction.
