Objectives
During this course, students will explore holistically the perspective of health promotion in nursing and practice client guidance.
After completing the course, the student
• understands the promotion of holistic health and functional capacity as a part of nursing care
• understands the philosophical, ethical and pedagogical foundations of guidance in nursing care
• understands the different levels of health promotion
• can observe matters related to health and functional capacity and understands their significance for individuals and communities
• can reinforce individual's commitment to self-care in promoting health and functional capacity
• can use and evaluate appropriate guidance methods in various nursing contexts taking into account the diversity of clients and their families in interaction
• can utilize and assess digital opportunities in guidance and health promotion
• knows the key concepts and vocabulary of the course in Finnish
• can participate in patient guidance situations related to the course in Finnish according to their language proficiency level
Content
• promotion of holistic health and functional capacity
• philosophical, ethical and pedagogical foundations of nursing guidance
• different levels of health promotion and strengthening health equity
• resources supporting health, mental health and functional capacity and their promotion
• risk factors for diseases and dependencies, prevention and early intervention
• the connection between personal emotions and attitudes to professional activities and interaction in guidance work
• the nursing guidance process and its evaluation in different nursing situations
• different working methods to support guidance, such as structured health surveys, mini-interventions, coaching methods, and the teach-back method in the Finnish language
• digital guidance and communication in nursing and health promotion
• key terminology and vocabulary of the course in Finnish

The student
• understands how to observe and promote holistic health and functional capacity related issues from the perspective of individuals and communities
• understands the philosophical, ethical, and pedagogical foundations of nursing guidance in general terms
• knows how to strengthen an individual's commitment to self-care in promoting health and functional capacity
• can use situation-appropriate guidance methods in various nursing contexts, considering clients and their families
• can utilize digital possibilities in nursing guidance and health promotion
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student

• understands the philosophical, ethical, and pedagogical foundations of nursing guidance
• knows how to effectively strengthen an individual's commitment to self-care in promoting health and functional capacity

• can utilize and evaluate client-oriented digital possibilities in nursing guidance and health promotion
