Objectives

The course introduces the studio-based recording environment as well as digital audio workstation (DAW) as a songwriting tool.

The students is able to:
Identify differences between studio microphones
Understand studio signal flow.
Use studio hardware, DAW and MIDI
Develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills that are a must to work in the modern music production studio.

Content

Studio-based recording environment, digital audio workstation songwriting tools such as MIDI, sampling and basic understanding of melody and arrangement are covered.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student demonstrates a basic understanding of studio and DAW work. The student knows how to interact in discussions related to the field on a basic level and how to give and receive feedback. The student participates in class, assigned work and reporting.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student shows a good understanding of studio and DAW work. The student demonstrates a good ability to interact in discussions related to the field and is good at giving and receiving feedback. The student works actively in class and assignments and delivers well-structured reports.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student shows an exceptional understanding of studio and DAW work. The student demonstrates an excellent ability to interact in discussions related to the field and is excellent at giving and receiving feedback. The student works actively in class and shows a strong commitment to the assignments and reports.
