Principles of Animated ElementsLaajuus (5 cr)

Code: IM00GP49

Credits

5 op

Objectives

Create dynamic and appealing movements for animated elements from characters to inanimate objects. The methods include reference materials and manually animating elements. The course covers software tools needed to create animated elements.

Learning how to digitally animate elements. Implement the classical animation principles into animatable characters and animated elements. The Visual Effects field will be covered by covering the basics of physical simulations, including particle systems.

Content

Students will use animation software to make different tests on the animation principles and simulations. There will be daily exercises along the lectures that demonstrate the principles. The tasks finished within this course will be further utilised in other courses. This course is run mostly as contact teaching. Topics of the course include:

• Pose to pose animation and frame by frame - animation
• Classical animation principles
• Layout and staging for animation
• Combining audio and movement, lip sync

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student recognizes some of the basic principles of compositing and animation techniques and is able to produce some visual effects and animation materials based on those principles.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student understands and recognizes the principles of animation and compositing and has the ability to produce material according to the principles of compositing and animation techniques. The end results align well with the needs of visual effects and animation storytelling.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student applies all compositing and animation techniques to the materials produced. Has the ability to implement them independently and understands how they enhance audio-visual storytelling. Based on this understanding, creative and original content is produced.
