From Idea To Startup (5cr)

Objectives (course unit)

From Idea to Startup is a pre-incubator for teams. It combines team coaching and individual development with the development of sustainable ideas and business activities. The course will support teams on their first steps towards entrepreneurship. You will receive coching for building a successful team and for developing and refining your business idea. The pre-incubator will help teams take a giant leap in developing their business idea. In addition, the teams will expand their knowledge and gain experience of building and working effectively with a world-class team.  



After the course, you:
- can apply lean development tools in enhancing a business idea
- can apply value creation logic for developing your business idea
- understand the principles of sustainable business and can apply these
- have the ability to work constructively and responsibly in a multidisciplinary team
- have the ability to lead a team and yourself and develop solutions
- be able to independently develop your own and your team’s competencies
- be able to work systematically and consistently under pressure
- have developed your presentation and sales skills and your ability to pitch your business ideas.

Content (course unit)

Students and coach tailor the content based on individual needs. The content may consist of internship in a startup company (in Finland or aboard), collaboration projects or setting up a new company. An option is also to develop already (your own) existing company.

Part of the content may be literature review. Also theme related conferences, seminars or lectures may be approved as content for this course.

Student will draw a study plan and reports the results in separately agreed manner (goals, outcomes and working hours documented).

Prerequisites (course unit)

Because From Idea to Startup -course is especially tailored for existing teams, pre-requisite is an existing team and/ or a business idea.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Approved when student has demonstrated independent and self-conducted work towards the team goals. She/ he has set the goals together with the team, worked persistently towards them and evaluated the outcome bot in quality and quantity. Your business idea has developed during the course and has been evaluated with customer orientated methods and tools.

Failed if student has not succeed in planning and producing the self-development process as a member of a team. He/ she has not mastered the team learning targets in a way that could describe the meaning and progress in self- and team-development.
