Objectives (course unit)

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. understand and use Finnish language in simple everyday situations
2. recognise the grammatical elements in Finnish words
3. apply grammatical structures in new situations
4. understand Finnish culture and way of life and studying

Content (course unit)

- pronunciation
- basic grammar
- day-to-day language: greeting, introduction, shopping, asking the way
- Finnish food, habits, education system, religion

Location and time

The course meetings will take place in TAMK on Fridays at 12.30-2.00 PM. Remember to check out the clock time in the calendar.

The meeting places will be added in the calendar in the beginning of the autumn.

Exam schedules

The final exam take place on the 8th of December.

The renewal exam will be held on the 15th of December.

Assessment methods and criteria

To pass the course, you need to

- meet the attendance requirements (at least 70 % attendance of the classroom time)
- to take part in the culture assignment
- to complete and submit the reflection assignment on time
- to have at least 30 % success in the final exam

The course grade will be determined based on the final exam. To receive a course grade, you need to meet the previously showed course requirements as well.

Here are the requirements for different grades:
- grade 5: 90-100 % success in the exam
- grade 4: 75-89 % success in the exam
- grade 3: 60-74 % success in the exam
- arvosana 2: 45-59 % success in the exam
- arvosana 1: 30-44 % success in the exam
- failed: less than 30 %success in the exam
