Objectives (course unit)
The student understands how current political themes are related to different levels of politics, what kinds of decision-making processes are related to these themes and what citizens think about the issues. The current topical themes or phenomena vary from year to year. Typical examples include populism, immigration, direct democracy, democratization, justice, threats to democracy, the future of Europe, and climate change. The student is able to identify and analyse current topical themes and their significance in politics as well as to apply this knowledge in the master’s thesis.

Current themes and phenomena in politics. The course unit takes place annually as a seminar focusing on one or several current themes.
