Objectives (course unit)
The student - recognises the philosophical foundations of prevailing educational thinking and conceptions, as well as the dependency of educational thinking, practices, and institutions on their historical context -is aware of the main traditions of the Western educational thinking and their philosophical and historical foundations. -understands human´s dependence on non-human nature and the importance of environmental education in the formation of a sustainable and wise relationship with nature
Content (course unit)
In the course, the student becomes familiar with the main traditions in Finnish and Western educational thinking and their significance for the construction of contemporary education and educational institutions. The course examines societal changes and ideologies in educational thinking and the history of education, as well as the special nature of education as a basis for ethical action competence and a wise relationship with nature.
