Objectives (course unit)

The aim of the course is to introduce the student to the different stages of planning an EU-funded project and the tools used in planning. After the course: • You know the phases of project planning • You know how to utilize the tools used in project planning • You know the funding portals to which project applications are submitted • You know how to engage actors in project planning as part of goal-oriented project planning • You understand how networks work and in what ways partnerships can be built • You understand the principles of project budgeting • You know how to prepare a communication and dissemination plan for a project • You know how to produce a project plan in your own field Competences: proactive development, operating in a workplace, internationality and multiculturalism

Content (course unit)

Phases and tools for planning EU projects, such as problem tree/solution tree, strategy analysis, stakeholder analysis, feasibility analysis, logical framework, scheduling, risk analysis, work packages Funding portals such as Eura2021, Funding & Tenders Portal Networks and partnerships Project budgeting Project communication and dissemination plan Producing a project plan in your field

Location and time

Lectures/workshops are usually held in the daytime. The dates of the lectures/workshops will be announced in Moodle.

Assessment methods and criteria

All assignments must be completed in accordance with the evaluation criteria given during the study unit. Assessment K5 - T1, Fail / to be supplemented

Teaching methods

The study unit is delivered virtually and includes independent and group work. The course includes reading and study material, exercises, recorded lectures, workshops and tutorials. Virtual learning environments Moodle, Zoom and Teams.

Learning materials

EU Project Planning and Management Handbook, Eeva Helameri, Anzelika Krastina ja Eija Raasakka. Relevant articles, videos and other learning material are given in Moodle.

Student workload

The scope of the course is 5 ECTS, which means about 130 hours of work. Most of this will be independent and group work.

Identification and recognition of acquired Competence The recognition of competence refers to the higher education institution's measures and practices by which the competence you have identified and presented is made visible, documented and assessed. The higher education institution confirms your competence, and it is made part of your studies. Demonstration of the competence will be agreed with the teachers in the beginning of the course.

Practical training and working life cooperation

You apply what you have learned to your own field. Materials from representatives of working life in Moodle materials.

International connections

The course can be completed in both English and Finnish. The course uses both Finnish and English material. International students can also participate in the course.
