Objectives (course unit)

On completion of the study course, the student - Understands what marketing is, why is it needed, and of which elements it consists of - Understands the operational environment of marketing efforts - Masters the basic concepts in the field of marketing - Masters the basics of productizing, branding and digital marketing - Is able to apply the received knowledge to the homework of the course - Is able to recognize aspects and deeds of marketing in everyday life situations - Understands the basic functions of a company eg. the importance of strategy, the main principles of leadership, budgeting, pricing and accounting.

Content (course unit)

This study course introduces the basic concepts of marketing in an inspiring way, and opens up many aspects, for what reasons and how it is done both in private and public sector. The content consists of presentations and video speeches of representatives from work life – a CEO of a media agency, a brand manager from the Association of Finnish Work and a digital marketing specialist of a B2B communication agency. Related exercises and assignments enhance the learning process of a student. The basics of business consist of an introduction to strategy, leadership, budgeting, pricing, and cost accounting.
