Objectives (course unit)

Gain the foundational knowledge you will use in the workplace as a Junior Cybersecurity Analyst. Each day billions of devices are connected to the network, and each one needs to be protected. Build the skills to secure your network all the way to the edge, including hardware, software, and media. In this course, you will learn how to assess the network, operating systems, and endpoints for vulnerabilities, and how to secure the network. You will also gain skills to maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and availability in your network and your data. This course is part of the Career Path – Cybersecurity.

Content (course unit)

Network Security Basics Covers the key principles to secure a network. You will learn about the most common types of cyberattacks, how networks can be vulnerable, and ways to enhance network security. Operating System and Endpoint Security Explores the basic security of the Windows and Linux operating systems. You will also learn the impacts of malware, and the best practices for endpoint protection and securing files.

Exam schedules

The course contains 10 chapters, a checkpoint exam, and a final exam. To continue to the next lesson you need to answer correctly at least 60% of the rehearse quiz questions, or you have tried to take the quiz three times.

Assessment methods and criteria

Each Moodle module includes a review quiz. The passing threshold for the quiz is 60%, and it can be attempted three times. At the end of the course a final test is taken in the Metropolia Moodle.

The course is based on the Cisco Networking Academy Endpoint Security course and is primarily completed through Cisco's web portal "Skills for All" using a web browser. Skills for All is your place to get started – whether you’re curious about the field of tech, looking to build new skills, or ready to pursue a new career path. The course contains 10 chapters, a checkpoint exam, and a final exam. To continue to the next lesson you need to answer correctly at least 60% of the rehearse quiz questions, or you have tried to take the quiz three times. Simultaneously with the Endpoint Security course, the course-related practical exercises are performed on the student's own workstation, and the review tests (quizzes) and the final exam are conducted on Metropolia's Moodle platform. The Moodle modules follow the structure of the Endpoint Security course and guide the progression. Each Moodle module includes a review quiz. The passing threshold for the quiz is 60%, and it can be attempted three times. At the end of the course a final test is taken in the Metropolia Moodle.
