The values and social significance of volunteer work (5cr)

Objectives (course unit)

Students will - identify the various motivations and values behind volunteering, and development trends. - understand the importance of volunteering for different sectors of society and for civil society activities. - recognise different forms of volunteering and the approaches of associations and other bodies organizing voluntary activities. - understand the dynamics between volunteering and paid work. - be familiar with the definition of volunteering and recognise the impact of legislation and official practices.

Content (course unit)

- volunteering in Finland - volunteering in various sectors (social welfare, cultural events, sport, nature etc.) - volunteering as a resource in a welfare society. - the national discussion around volunteering; influencing the determinants of volunteering

Teaching methods

verkko-opetus, 3 lähipäivää, joista vähintään yhdessä on oltava läsnä. Poissaoloista tehdään korvaavat tehtävät.

Suomeksi Opintojakso kuuluu Vapaaehtoistoiminnan johtamisen 15 op opintokokonaisuuteen, mutta opintojakson voi suorittaa myös itsenäisenä jaksona. Osaamiskokonaisuus antaa valmiudet suunnitella, johtaa ja kehittää vapaaehtoistoimintaa erilaisissa organisaatioissa ja eri toimialoilla: kulttuuritapahtumissa, urheiluseuroissa sekä sosiaali- ja terveysalan järjestöissä tai kuntasektorilla.
