Objectives (course unit)

Upon completing the course, the student: • Understands the significance of responsible leadership in organizational operations • Is able to analyze the importance of values and ethical conduct in leadership • Is able to analyze and develop organizational culture to support sustainable and responsible practices

Content (course unit)

Sustainability and responsibility are key themes in the operations of companies and organizations. During this course, you will explore sustainable and responsible management, integrate theory with practice, and be able to utilize the knowledge to develop the company or organization. The content of the course: - Values and ethical leadership - Organizational culture that supports sustainable and responsible practices, and its development - Challenges and conflicts in managing responsibility

Teaching methods

This is an online course in Moodle platform. The course is open from 1 September 2025 to 31 July 2026 in the academic year 2025 - 2026. The assignments required to complete the course can be returned at any time to the return folder in the course. Learning assignment / development work for the target organization chosen by the student. In it, either one's own organization OR another organization is selected as the object of review. The learning assignments have five submission dates during the academic year 2024 -2025. All the learning assignments must be completed by the submission date. The completed assignments will be evaluated within four weeks from each submission date. The submisson dates are October 31, 2025, December 31, 2025, March 8, 2026, May 15, 2026 and July 31, 2026.

Relevant, topical literature and articles, Moodle environment.

Student workload

Self-study in Moodle platform. Five credits are totally 135 hours student work.

Practical training and working life cooperation

Learning assignment / development work for the target organization chosen by the student. In it, either one's own organization OR another organization is selected as the object of review.

Further information

The course fee for students of the Open University of Applied Sciences is 75 euros. Alternatively, there is an annual fee of 350 euros, which covers 12 months of course fees. Graduates from Savonia's degree programs can start their studies free of charge at Savonia's Open University of Applied Sciences within one year of graduation. The right to study is valid for one year. This course is Master level course. The course is part of the electives of all Savonia master-degree studies.
