Objectives (course unit)

After completing the virtual course, the student is able to define the main quality tools and to give examples of how to use them.

Content (course unit)

- Check sheet (tally sheet) - Histogram - Pareto chart (80-20 rule) - Cause and effect diagram (fishbone or Ishikawa diagram) - Scatter diagram - Control chart - Flow chart - Stratification

Assessment methods and criteria

The course will be assessed based on the assignments, using a pass/fail grading scale. No individual feedback will be given on the assignments. In the final evaluation, it will be checked that the assignments meet the given criteria. The criteria and further instructions are available in the learning environment. The course grade will be entered into Peppi no later than two weeks after the course ends. Prohibition of AI Use in Course Assignments The purpose of course assignments is to assess the student's individual learning and skills. Using AI-generated content compromises the integrity of this assessment and may constitute unethical conduct. Therefore, the use of AI tools in assignments is prohibited.

Teaching methods

Independent study and independent completion of assignments. The teacher is not present during the course. The learning materials are available in the itslearning learning environment. The language of the materials is English.

Learning materials can be found in itslearning environment.

Student workload

There is a video and a few excersises about each quality tool. All exercises must be done.

Content scheduling

The course includes videos about quality tools and related assignments. The study progresses at the student’s own pace between December 1 2025, and June 1 2026. It is not possible to complete assignments after June 1, 2026.
