Objectives (course unit)

The student can describe the steps of the research development process and compare different research and development methods. The student knows the basics of quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis and can assess the factors affecting the reliability of different methods. The student is able to apply research ethics principles in rehabilitation research and development and is familiar with the principles of open science.

Content (course unit)

Stages of the research process; different research strategies and their application in the rehabilitation field; quantitative, qualitative, functional research, case study; collection and analysis of qualitative data (data classification and content analysis) collection and analysis of quantitative data (univariate methods, distributions, indicators); assessment of research reliability; research ethics; principles of open science and research

In addition to independent study and a compulsory online workshop, you will have the opportunity to: TEACHER CONSULTATION SESSIONS (Q&A SESSION, voluntary participation): - Wk 9 Tue 24.2. at 16-17 (Mari) - wk 12 Tue 17.3. at 16-17 (Heidi) - wk 17 Tue 21.4. at 16-17 (Heidi) The Hill-sessions will be together with the Finnish FY-group. You can ask your question in English.

Exam schedules

The non-stop online course does not have the possibility of repetition on assignments. You can attempt the exam 3 times.

Teaching methods

The course is implemented online as self-paced online learning during 9.2.-29.5.2026. THE COURSE OPENS IN MOODLE ON FEBRYARY 9th AT 6pm! The course includes independent working and working with pair in your own phase. The course also includes 1 online workshop/person. There are 2 online workshops during this course. You can choose on them. WORKSHOP (obligatory participation for one workshop): - wk 13 Wed 25.3. at 12.45-16.00 - wk 20 Wed 13.5. at 12.45-16.00 NOTE! THERE NEEDS TO BE AT LEAST 6 STUDENTS ENROLLED TO THE WORKSHOP. If there is less than 6 students enrolled for the workshop, it will be cancelled.

Student workload

The course is recommended to be completed in six weeks, and for each week a sequence of materials and assignments is given, with an average time recommendation. Ultimately, however, it is up to the student to decide the pace of completion according to their own circumstances.
