Objectives (course unit)
A student can itemize the significant parts of patient safety entirety and creates a bigger picture of patient safety culture. The student understands the importance of human factors in the occurrence of an incident. Students are able to evaluate the effects of various factors on the emergence of a hazard and find different options to prevent patient injury. The student understands the differences between the individual and the system approach and this model of thinking in the development of patient safety. The student gains tools for their own teamwork skills by analyzing teamwork. The student analyzes the progress of a hazard incident using the root cause analysis tool. The student takes into account the importance of the involvement of the patient and his / her relatives in ensuring patient safety. The student applies patient safety knowledge he/she gained during this course to develop patient safety in one event/part of health (or social) care. The student understands health care as a high risk area due to complicated processes and multiprofessional work. The student's positive and enthusiastic attitude towards patient safety work is developed.

Prerequisites (course unit)
Prerequisites: The student has completed 120 credits.
Location and time
The study takes place in the Moodle learning environment from 1.9.2025 to 17.5.2026 Students determine their own study schedule.
Exam schedules
Competences are demonstrated through various learning tasks or exams during the course.
Assessment methods and criteria
All assignments are mandatory. The final grade is based solely on the final task and self-evaluation. The teacher provides individual feedback only on the final task. Although there is no individual feedback before the final assignment, you are encouraged to compare your work to the available examples and reflect on what you could improve. Progress through the earlier modules is monitored, but peer feedback and interim tasks are not graded numerically.

Teaching methods
This is a self-paced online course. You will explore modules independently. You will study modules and demonstrate your skills in a variety of learning activities. Although students can work independently, it is highly recommended to complete the modules in order.
Learning materials
The learning materials will be available in the Moodle learning environment from the start of the course.
Student workload
5 CR = 27 hrs/CR x 5 CR = 135 hrs student hours of work. The content is divided into five modules, and it is recommended to reserve about one week for each module.
