Objectives (course unit)

The aim of the course is to learn the basics of key industries, companies, products and processes.

On completion of the course, students will
• know the sectors of industry and understand their significance
• be able to name the companies in the sector
• be able to identify the products in the sector
• be able to describe the main manufacturing processes in the sector.

Content (course unit)

• Forest and chemical industries in Finland
• Forest and chemical industries enterprises
• Forest and chemical industries products
• Forest and chemical industries manufacturing processes and their unit processes

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student can define the structure and importance of the industrial sector for the Finnish economy and can identify the key companies and their products. The student can identify the manufacturing and unit processes of forestry and chemical industry products. Students can search for and use information related to their own industry.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student is able to analyse the structure and importance of the industrial sector for the Finnish economy and is able to identify a wide range of companies in the sector. The student can explain the main products of the forestry and chemical industries and their manufacturing and unit processes. Students can search, compare and select information in solving tasks.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student has a broad understanding of the industrial sector as a whole and its importance for the Finnish economy. The student is able to analyse product solutions and manufacturing processes in the forestry and chemical industries. The student is able to search for and combine information and to analyse the present and future of his/her sector.
