Objectives (course unit)

The course aims to introduce the practicalities involved in the final thesis research process. The focus is on providing students necessary information and competences to begin with the final thesis process and writing the manuscript.
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
• manage the thesis process and contents, thesis as an academic research project.
• describe the different forms of final thesis as well as the principles of thesis assessment at TAMK.
• use the guides and instructions helping and regulating the final thesis process in reliable manner.
• identify the basic research approaches applicable in BBA thesis.
• select the critical approach in applying AI in thesis writing.
• start designing of thesis topic proposal.

Content (course unit)

The contents include the followings:
• What is academically reliable thesis content like?
• Which thesis process guidelines and practicalities to follow at TAMK?
• Which are the main research methods for applied research?
• What is the role of AI in thesis writing and which guidelines to follow in applying AI in thesis writing?

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Pass:
The student can explain the concept of applied research and is able to justify the basic principles of academic research. Student can select a suitable research approach, including the most common data collection methods in his/her own thesis process. Student is able to evaluate his/her research critically and is aware of good and ethical practices of applying AI in research work.

Fail:
The student fails to recognize the principles of an applied research and cannot define suitable research approach and data collecting methods in his/her research and thesis process. Student does not understand the role of AI in academic research writing in thesis process and/or applying AI is not critical.

Online course with material in Moodle. Course is to be completed within academic year 2026. Student is able to proceed with tasks in his/her own pace within a year. Check dead lines for submitting tasks in Moodle course!
