Objectives (course unit)

Knowledge of African American music history and different styles. Getting to know the key features of different styles by listening and analyzing music.

Content (course unit)

• the birth stages of African-American music – similarities and differences between different styles
• jazz music, different styles from New Orleans onwards
• blues, rhythm and blues and their influence on rock
• rock in different decades
• gospel, soul and funk
• Latin American music

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Successful completion in the listening exam.

Participation in the teaching (80%), completion of the assigned tasks, and an exam.
