Objectives (course unit)

Students are familiar with three and four notes in different pitches and with typical chord and accompaniment patterns, and obtained adequate skills for simple accompaniment and solistic piano arrangements.
Their playing is free from straight note-reading, and they have skills to adapt the style to that of Finnish dance and vocal music and afro-american music appropriately.
Students have learning skills. Students are able to assess and improve their skills and further develop their learning methods.

Content (course unit)

• familiarizing with three and four-note chords in various pitches and learning chord formation using absolute chord symbols
• making acquaintance with Finnish dance and vocal and afro-american music, and rehearsing a repertoire by playing and singing

Prerequisites (course unit)

Proficiency in the basics of music theory.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Successful completion requires the student’s active participation in the course’s face-to-face meetings and the satisfactory completion of assigned tasks.
