Objectives (course unit)

Students are able to:
• perceive and construct common triads and seventh chords
• create informative chord charts for the band
• write melodies and instrumental parts for small ensembles
• perform instrument-specific parts for band instruments in accordance with their characteristics

Content (course unit)

• Notating triads and seventh chords with real chord symbols
• Common chord progressions
• Phrasing practices in popular music and jazz
• Instrumentation and notation for band instruments

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Successful completion requires the student’s active participation in the course’s face-to-face meetings and the satisfactory completion of assigned tasks.
