Objectives (course unit)

Start with the basics of web development in this course. It covers the essential topics related to web and app design, setting a strong foundation for future learning. While this course provides an overview rather than a detailed study, it gives you the key concepts, making it a great first step for those wanting to learn more about web development.

Upon course completion, the student will:
• Grasp the fundamental concepts and terms of modern web development.
• Possess the skills to build functional websites using HTML & CSS.
• Know how to utilize JavaScript for simple interactions
• Be able to create content that seamlessly adjusts to various devices and screen sizes.
• Understand how to use intelligent tools to aid with code creation
• Know how to launch web projects on live servers.

Content (course unit)

Concepts and terminology: Understanding the fundamental ideas and terms used in the field of web design.
Front-end web development tools and technologies: Learning the various tools and technologies used to develop the user-facing part of websites.
HTML & CSS: Becoming familiar with the foundational languages of web development used for structuring content and styling web pages.
Javascript basics: Acquiring basic knowledge of this essential scripting language, which enables the creation of dynamic, interactive web pages.
Responsive design: Grasping the principles and practices of creating web designs that work seamlessly across a variety of devices and screen sizes.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student:
• Is able to identify and define basic concepts related to web development.​
• Understands HTML, CSS & JavaScript at a basic level.
• Performs the assigned task under supervision/assistance.
• Knows different web design methods but has difficulties implementing them in practice.
• Performs routine, pre-learned tasks.
• Knows how to interact in discussions related to the field on a basic level and how to give and receive feedback.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student:
• Understands the core concepts related to web development.
• Understands HTML, CSS & JavaScript at a good level
• Performs the assigned task independently with good-quality results.
• Knows various web design methods and demonstrates the ability to utilize them in practice.
• Performs core web development tasks and is able to adapt pre-learned techniques to novel situations
• Demonstrates a good ability to interact in discussions related to the field and is good at giving and receiving feedback.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student:
• Understands advanced concepts related to web development.
• Understands HTML, CSS & JavaScript at an excellent level and is able to break down complex code to others.
• Performs the assigned task independently with outstanding results.
• Knows various web design methods and is able to select appropriate methods for various situations and implement them well in practice.
• Performs advanced web development tasks and is able to adapt pre-learned techniques to novel situations
• Demonstrates an excellent ability to interact in discussions related to the field and is well-rounded at giving and receiving feedback.
