Objectives (course unit)
The student
- is able to communicate professionally with patients, their significant others and colleagues by observing nursing values and principles;
- is able to support, guide and empower patients' self-care and help patients in their daily activities by using safe nursing interventions;
- is able to monitor the patient's vital signs to identify the patient's basic needs;
- is able to make a nursing plan for his/her own patient in a holistic way, and give an oral and written report;
- is able to work ergonomically and follow aseptic principles;
- is able to safely implement patients' medication and fluid therapy under supervision;
- is able to plan his/her own personal learning outcomes and evaluate his/her learning during the clinical training;
- is able to identify his/her own development challenges.

- 30 ects of initial stage studies completed
- Supervised Clinical Training 1, 2 and 3 completed
- theory and orientation related to the course completed

Assessment methods and criteria
Supervised Clinical Training 4 will be evaluated as pass/fail.
To successfully pass the clinical training, the student must follow all instructions given, s/he has to fill in the goals, timetable, self-evaluation according to instructions.
Written assignment needs to be done and approved by the supervising teacher. Filling appropriate details to Medication Passport is student's responsibility.
The student needs to participate in the info session and reflection meeting. All hours need to be completed during the clinical training. If student is sick/absent from clinical training, supervising teacher needs to be informed immediately.
If the student does not follow the given instructions, Supervised Clinical Training is not passed.

Teaching methods
Supervised Clinical Training. The student can choose to have the clinical training in all studied areas of nursing.
Theory studies and orientation to clinical training in the chosen area of nursing field must be studied before the clinical training.
The student should have done Supervised Clinical Training 1,2,3 before Supervised Clinical Training 4 (please note different instructions due to COVID19 pandemic situation year 2020).
Learning materials
All material from previous courses. The orientation material provided from the clinical placement. OhjattuHarjoittelu 2018 Moodle course, relevant material from the course should be studies.
The student should revise the theory studies of the chosed clinical nursing field.
Student workload
Total hours of 9 ECTS= 243h.
In the clinical placement total hours 230 h, approximately 38.15h/week.
Info session in Zoom 2 hrs 2.11.2020.
Written assignments (goals, timetable, nursing care plan (Docca), evaluation, reflection at school).
International connections
Supervised Clinical Training 4 can be done in international exchange.
Further information
Info session is mandatory.
Final reflection with teacher and other students is mandatory.
Written assignment: Nursing care plan in Docca (mandatory) in Finnish. Needs to be done before the reflection meeting.
Goals and planned shifts must be sent to supervising teacher during the first week of practice.
Midterm and final evaluation to be planned and agreed with mentors and supervising teacher.
If teacher will not participate in person (midterm or final evaluation), student's responsibility is to arrange the evaluation and write a summary of the discussion, and send it to mentors and supervising teacher.
Self-evaluation need to be done in the evaluation document before the final evaluation discussion, and sent to mentors. Final evaluation is agreed with mentors and teacher (phone call).
