Supervised Clinical Training: Emergency and High Dependency Units (9 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

The student
masters the central skills in individual nursing care of patients in emergency and high dependency units
- is able to act safely and ethically
- demonstrates how to act as a nurse specialist in nursing care emergency and high dependency units
- utilises quality assessment methods in order to develop his/her own and the work community’s actions

Content (course unit)

Contents: 6 weeks of clinical training in Emergency unit or High dependency unit or wards with a High dependency unit

Prerequisites (course unit)

Participation in the courses of Nursing care of Emergency and High Dependency Units and Supervised Clinical Training: Emergency and High Dependency Units.

Approved:
The student
- is able to utilise evidence-based knowledge in his/her work of caring for emergency and high dependency patients in different nursing environments
- knows the most common situations and illnesses leading to emergency and high dependency care
- is able to observe and support the patient's vital functions in emergency and high dependency situations
- acts in accordance with ethical principles
- acts professionally, for patient safety, in a family-oriented manner and in accordance with the principles of sustainable development
Fail
The student
- does not take responsibility for his/her own learning
- is unable to provide feedback on his/her own activities
- is not able to utilise evidence-based knowledge in his/her actions involving emergency and high dependency nursing care
- does not know the common situations and illnesses leading to emergency and high dependency care
- is not able to observe and support the patient's vital functions
- is not able to act in accordance with ethical principles

Jakso arvioidaan asteikolla hyväksytty/hylätty
Harjoittelun hyväksytty suorittaminen edellyttää vähintään tyydyttävän tason kriteerien saavuttamista. Myös jaksoon kuuluvat tehtävät tulee suorittaa hyväksytysti.

Teaching methods

Harjoittelu akuuttihoitotyössä päivystyspoliklinikoilla, valvonta- ja teho-osastoilla ja akuuttivuodeosastoilla.
Harjoitteluun kuuuluu tehtävä, tehtäväksiannon esittely harjoittelun orientaatiossa.
Harjoittelun tehtävä esitetään etäseminaareissa lukujärjestyksestä löytyvinä ajankohtina.

Muutokset toteutussuunnitelmaan mahdollisia.

Student workload

Harjoittelun pituus 9 op (6 viikkoa) 243 tuntia, josta vähennetään harjoittelun orientaatiotuntiin, harjoittelun tehtävään ja harjoitteluseminaariin kuluva aika. Osastolla tehdään 230 tuntia.

Harjoittelu arvioidaan hyväksytty/hylätty, mutta harjoittelu voi vaikuttaa kurssin 7K00FA61-3002 (Päivystys- ja valvontapotilaan hoitotyö) arvosanaa nostavasti. Ko. kurssin kokonaisarvosana voi korottua yhdellä numerolla ylöspäin edellyttäen erinomaista menestymistä harjoittelussa. Harjoittelumenestyksen arvioimisessa hyödynnetään ohjaajien antamaa palautetta.

Harjoittelu pääsääntöisesti viikoilla 3-8
Harjoittelun orientaatiossa ja seminaarissa läsnäolovelvollisuus.

Jakson puolessa välissä väliarviointi, johon osallistuua opiskelijan ja opettajan lisäksi mielellään myös työpaikkaohjaaja.
