Objectives (course unit)
This course is designed for all students to be at the forefront of the media industry, offering advanced insights and practical skills in new media technologies and content creation. The aim of this course is to build an understanding of emerging media technologies and their implications on content creation, providing students with the competence to innovate and adapt in the evolving media landscape.
The student is able to:
Analyse the impact and implications of emerging media technologies on content creation. Evaluate current trends, future predictions, and opportunities in the media industry. Design innovative digital services and implement novel solutions, utilising ethical strategies with an emphasis on accessibility and responsibility.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student:
• demonstrates a basic understanding of emerging media technologies and their implications on content creation.
• has a foundational knowledge of current trends in the media industry and can identify some opportunities presented by emerging technologies.
• participates in discussions and group activities and contributes to the completion of assigned tasks and projects.
• can recognise the importance of ethical strategies and accessibility in designing digital services but may struggle to implement them effectively.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student:
• exhibits a clear understanding of the impact of emerging media technologies on content creation and can analyse current trends and future predictions in the media industry.
• can design innovative digital services and/or implement novel solutions with a focus on accessibility and responsibility, following ethical strategies.
• actively engages in all course activities, collaborates effectively with peers, and contributes insightful ideas and solutions.
• can articulate their thoughts and findings well in both discussions and written reports, demonstrating a good grasp of the course content.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student:
• demonstrates an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of emerging media technologies and their implications on content creation, and can critically evaluate and analyse media trends and industry developments.
• excels in designing and implementing innovative digital services and solutions, employing advanced ethical strategies with a strong emphasis on accessibility and responsibility.
• is highly motivated, takes initiative, and assumes responsibility for their own learning and contributions to group tasks and discussions, positively impacting the learning environment and group dynamics.
• can articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely, providing well-substantiated arguments and insights in discussions and reports, reflecting a high level of mastery of the course content.

No exams, only assignments.

This course is evalueated based on your course assignments and presentations.

Teaching methods
Lectures and practical work related to current relevant topics. Students will focus on such themes which would be beneficial for their employment. Students will do a course assignment which will showcase relevant "emerging media" themes in their field of experise. Students will do assignments with AI and game engines. Students will visit CIVIT and FabLab at Hervanta campus.

Total of 8 contact teaching days: 6 contact lectures. 1 day visit to Hervanta campus CIVIT and FabLab. 1 day course recap and presentations.
Practical training and working life cooperation
You can combine this with your practical training. The idea is to test and learn new and relevant emerging media technologies / solutions for each students own expertise.
