Objectives (course unit)

This course provides the student with the basics of HVAC technology, following the technical requirements of a family house. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

• Select and place basic HVAC systems in a building the size of a family house.
• Independently perform the necessary calculations to support functional and purposeful choices.

Content (course unit)

Regulations and guidelines concerning HVAC building systems
Requirements and objectives regarding indoor conditions
Basic structure and components of HVAC systems in single-family houses
Design principles and simple case dimensioning of HVAC systems
Implementation and installation methods of HVAC technology in single-family houses

Prerequisites (course unit)

Introduction to Building Services and Technical Documentation - course or equivalent knowledge.
Engineering Physics for Building Services, HVAC Systems or Engineering Physics for Building Services, Electrical Systems either as a prerequisite or concurrently.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student can name the main building services systems of a small house.
The student can prepare sizing calculations for basic HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems under guidance.
The student can describe the objectives for the indoor conditions of a residential building.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student can name the building services systems of a small house and describe the basic principles of their operation.
The student can prepare sizing calculations for HVAC system design and make equipment selections based on those calculations.
The student is familiar with the objectives for the indoor conditions of a residential building and can create a targeted plan to maintain its quality.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student can name the building services systems of a small house and has a thorough understanding of their operation.
The student can prepare sizing calculations for HVAC system design and critically compare alternatives when making equipment selections based on those calculations.
The student is familiar with the objectives for the indoor conditions of a residential building and can create a targeted plan to maintain its quality.
