Objectives (course unit)

The course provides you with essential information on the physical principles of magnetic resonance imaging, the operating principles of the equipment, and the performance of magnetic resonance examinations. You will learn patient guidance and magnetic safety working practices. You will apply basic knowledge of topographic anatomy and learn to identify common findings in MRI images.

After completing the course, the student:
• knows the physical principles or MRI imaging, the function of MRI equipment and auxiliary equipment
• knows how to impact the quality of MRI images by the selection of parameters, know the most common artefacts
• can apply their knowledge of topographic anatomy in MRI examinations and know the body planes in use
• knows the principles of planning in the most common MRI examinations
• can name anatomic structures in an MRI image
• knows the most common MRI examinations carried out to adults and children
• knows the principles of safe working in MRI examinations
• knows how to guide patients in MRI examinations
• knows the contrast media and intensifiers used in MRI and their use, influence mechanism as well as their side effects and the care of them
• discerns the findings discovered with MRI
• knows how to act in cases of emergency

Content (course unit)

• MRI devices with auxiliary equipment
• examination process in MRI examinations
• factors affecting to image composition and image quality
• safety in MRI examinations
• use of contrast media and care of their side effects
• children in MRI examination
• radiology

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

• can name anatomic structures in an MRI image
• can describe the principles of safe working in MRI examinations
• can describe the process of MRI examination and guidance of patients
• can describe how to act in cases of emergency in MRI examinations
• can describe the principles of the use of contrast media and intensifiers used in MRI examinations

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

• can apply the basics of topographic anatomy and can name anatomic structures in an MRI image
• can explain the principles of safe working in MRI examinations
• can explain the process of MRI examination and the guidance of different-aged patients
• begins to discern the findings discovered with MRI
• can explain the contrast media and intensifiers used in MRI and their use, influence mechanism as well as their side effects and the care of them
• can explain how to act in cases of emergency in MRI examinations

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

• can apply knowledge of topographic anatomy versatilely and can name anatomic structures in an MRI image
• can explain the body plains compliant with the target
• can explain the principles of safe working in MRI examinations and action in states of emergency versatilely
• can widely explain the process of MRI examination and the special characteristics of the guidance of different-aged patients
• can explain how to impact the quality of MRI images by the selection of parameters
• can describe the most common artefacts
• can widely explain the contrast media and intensifiers used in MRI and their use, influence mechanism as well as their side effects and the care of them
