Objectives (course unit)
The student is familiar with oral communication situations in higher education studies and can act in them comprehensibly and appropriately. The student is acquainted with the means of verbal and non-verbal communication as well as the characteristics of Finnish communication culture. The student can deliver a prepared presentation related to their field, provide constructive feedback, and participate in group communication situations. The language proficiency level in language studies is B1.1-B1.2.
Content (course unit)
In this study module, we delve into Finnish communication culture as well as the characteristics of verbal and non-verbal communication. We strengthen the linguistic expression needed in higher education studies, including the diverse and situationally appropriate use of structures and vocabulary. The module includes practicing various group communication situations and integrating their own input into discussions. Students will prepare and deliver oral presentations and practice giving feedback and written reporting.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student recognizes means of verbal and non-verbal communication and is familiar with the basics of Finnish communication culture. The student can communicate in Finnish and be understood, even if there may be some inaccuracies in language structures or vocabulary. The student has participated in the course and completed the course assignments.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student can deliver a prepared presentation in Finnish and can provide feedback. The student is well-versed in means of verbal and non-verbal communication as well as Finnish communication culture. The student can organize their own proficiency in the Finnish language and use the language actively and proactively. The student is active in the group and has performed well in completing course assignments.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student can deliver an excellent presentation and provide constructive feedback in Finnish. The student is familiar with and can use various communication methods and understands and analyzes Finnish communication culture. The student uses a variety of Finnish language structures and a reasonably extensive vocabulary. The student can analyze their own proficiency in the Finnish language and knows how to deepen their skills. The student is highly motivated and committed. The student takes responsibility for one’s own and their group's performance.

Fail
The student has not participated in the course lessons or group work and has not submitted assignments on time.
