Objectives (course unit)
The student knows basic aspects of studying and working in one’s field of interest in the Finnish language. The student familiarizes oneself with the media and current themes in the field. The student can use a variety of Finnish language structures and a reasonably extensive vocabulary. The student knows how to deepen his/her written and oral Finnish language skills required in higher education studies. The language proficiency level in language studies is B1.1.
Content (course unit)
In this study module, we focus on developing Finnish language skills through various oral and written exercises. The module covers grammar structures and text production, practices understanding specialized texts and related vocabulary. If necessary, basic grammar rules are reviewed, and tools for independently improving Finnish language skills are provided to the student. In the module, students also research information related to their field of interest and become acquainted with it.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student recognizes and can use the concepts related to their field of interest with support. The student can communicate in the Finnish language and be understood, even if there may be some inaccuracies in language structures or vocabulary. The student understands what they need to do to improve. The student has participated in the course and completed the course assignments.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student can use the concepts related to their field of interest and apply them in practice. The student can communicate effectively in the Finnish language, organize their own knowledge, and use the language actively and proactively. The student is active in the group and has performed well in completing course assignments.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student uses concepts related to their field of interest and comprehends the bigger picture. The student employs a variety of Finnish language structures and a reasonably extensive vocabulary. The student can analyze their own proficiency in the Finnish language and knows how to deepen their skills. The student is highly motivated and committed. The student takes responsibility for their own and their group's performance.

Fail
The student has not participated in the course lessons or group work and has not submitted assignments on time.
