Objectives (course unit)

On this course, students will thoroughly familiarize themselves with various aspects of oral health care work. Upon completing the course, students will master ergonomics in their work, be familiar with the oral healthcare service system, and apply various teaching and guidance methods.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
• operate safely in patient transfers within oral healthcare work environments.
• work ergonomically in dental hygienists profession and explain the significance of ergonomics as part of work well-being.
• understand the key legislation governing oral health care.
• describe the oral health service system and guide the client to use the services as intended.
• define the principles of good customer service.
• utilize various teaching and guidance methods.
• Masters the stages of guidance process and documentation
• Recognizes in interaction situations how as a healthcare professional, they themselves influence the quality of the interaction, how to encourage and support, or promote the establishment of trust.
• Identifies their own strengths and areas for development in various interaction situations.
• Be familiar with oral oral hygiene products, their mechanisms of action, contraindications, and apply learned and evidence-based knowledge in client work.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Accepted:
• Demonstrates the ability to perform patient transfers safely in oral health care environments
• Demonstrates the ability to work ergonomically and explains the significance of ergonomics as part of occupational well-being
• Knows the key legislation in oral health care
• Can describe the oral health care service system and guide clients to use services appropriately
• Can operate according to good customer service principles
• Demonstrates the ability to use appropriate teaching and guidance methods for various situations
• Demonstrates mastery of the stages of the guidance process and documentation
• Exhibits self-reflection skills in interactive situations and has shown the ability to recognize personal strengths and areas for improvement in various interactive situations
• Demonstrates knowledge of oral hygiene products, their mechanisms of action, and contraindications, and can apply learned and evidence-based information in client work.
