Physiotherapeutic Assessment (12 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

The aim of the course is to provide skills in physiotherapeutic examination.

On completion of the course, the student will

• can use different methods of physiotherapeutic examination (e.g. interview, observation, measurement and manual examination) as part of the physiotherapy process
• learn the principles of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)
• understand the importance of motor control in regulating movement
• understands and can justify the importance of record-keeping, its ethical principles and responsibility in physiotherapy
• can write in a structured and comprehensible way according to the TAMK guidelines
• can work in a small group and use this in their own learning
• be familiar with the use of the elements of water in physiotherapy
• can work in accordance with the principles of first aid and know the importance of updating first aid skills

• methods of physiotherapeutic examination, including interview, observation, measurement and manual examination
• measuring and analysing musculoskeletal function
• motor control
• ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health)
• documentation as part of the physiotherapy process
• TAMK guidelines for written communication
• pool exercises
• first aid skills

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Approved, student

• actively contributes to the examination of the subject matter in a way that contributes to the discussion of the topic, using a wide range of sources
• uses methods of physiotherapeutic investigation as instructed to assess the nature and quality of postures, movements and locomotion
• can describe the function of the musculoskeletal system in different movements in terms of muscle work
• carry out physiotherapeutic examination tasks as instructed and return them within the prescribed time limit.
• be able to produce structurally sound, clear, concise and comprehensible written communication in accordance with the guidelines
• work actively with all members of the team
• receive feedback constructively and improve his/her own performance.
• demonstrate the ability to act in accordance with the principles of first aid and to deal with situations requiring first aid
