Objectives (course unit)

- knows the anatomy and physiology of the reproductive system
- knows the normal fetal development and the most common disorders of fetal development
- knows the most common genetic factors contributing to preconception health
- know the basics of obstetric anesthesiology
- knows the normal physiology of the newborn and related abnormalities and disorders

Content (course unit)

- anatomy and physiology of the reproductive system
- embryology
- genetics, preimplantation and fetal screening and diagnostics
- obstetric anesthesiology
- neonatology

Prerequisites (course unit)

The student must have completed the nursing studies except the Bachelor’s Thesis. The student cannot participate until Supervised clinical training 1-7 and all theoretical and clinical nursing studies are completed. The student has participated in Introduction to Midwifery -module

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student
- knows the anatomy and physiology of the reproductive system
- knows the normal fetal development and most common developmental disorders
- knows the most common genetic factors affecting preconception health
- knows the basics of obstetric anesthesiology
- knows the normal physiology of the newborn and related abnormalities and disorders

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student
- knows in detail the anatomy and physiology of the reproductive system
- knows more detailed the normal fetal development and most common developmental disorders
- knows more detailed the most common genetic factors contributing preconception health
- knows more detailed the basics of obstetric anesthesiology
- knows more detailed the normal physiology of the newborn and related abnormalities and disorders

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student
- is able to apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the reproductive system to midwifery practice
- has extensive knowledge of normal fetal development and developmental disorders
- has extensive knowledge of the most common genetic factors contributing preconception health
- masters the basics of obstetric anesthesiology
- masters the normal physiology of the newborn and related abnormalities and disorders
