It is possible to plan the clinical training to be done as a paid training, working as substitute nurse, after the student has achieved 140 credits.
Supervised clinical trainings 2-7 in the Degree Programme in Nursing should be planned and placed in different areas of nursing. EU directive requires following professional competence areas for a nurse responsible for general care: medical nursing, surgical nursing, nursing of children, young people and families, maternity care, mental health and substance abuse nursing, gerontological nursing, home care nursing, acute care nursing, palliative nursing, end-of-life care and nursing for disabled people.

The student

Fail:
The student
- lacks understanding of professional encounter: treats patients, family, or members of the work community inappropriately or disrespectfully and professional interaction and working life skills are insufficient
- has obvious gaps in nursing knowledge and skills required in the specified care environment; searching for and utilising knowledge is incomplete, and even after a tutorial discussions there are misunderstandings in the theoretical knowledge
- is not able to perform main clinical skills under supervision
- is not able to observe patient's basic vital functions and general condition and decision-making skills are inadequate
- is not able to recognise patient’s needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of care is inadequate and patient’s care path is unclear
- does not recognize the boundaries of own competence, resulting in endangering patient safety
- is not able to assess nursing quality in order to develop patient’s care
- is not able to promote patient safety and prevent incidents at all stages of the nursing care process
- does not master the principles of infection control and aseptic practice
- makes mistakes in the patient's medication and fluid therapy despite guidance; has not updated medication passport
- does not show interest in patient and family guidance and withdraws from it
- violates confidentiality or patient data privacy
- fails to follow the agreed rules for supervised clinical training (e.g. takes no responsibility for his/her own learning; the goals are missing; does not
follow the working hours, does not report his/ her absences, and/or the total amount of required hours is not fulfilled)
- evaluates his/her own competence unrealistically and is unable to receive feedback

Student workload

6 ECTS Supervised Clinical Training (4 weeks). The total number of hours in the training are 162 h and of orientation + final reflection. The number of hours to be completed in the clinical training is 153 h.
1ECTS: Clinical training assingment (27hours)

Completion alternatives

Supervised clinical training can be completed as planned paid training in a nursing a clinical setting after achieving 140 ECTS credits (studification or previously acquired skills)

Practical training and working life cooperation

Supervised clinical training 8-9, students can do as supervised internships, as inpatient internships or as academic internships. Inpatient internships and academic internships can be done as a paid internships as a registered nurse when the student has achieved 140 credits.

Before the start of each internship period, the student must have participated in the nursing theory studies carried out in the internship environment in question. If the internship is carried out as supervised internships, the place is reserved in accordance with the instructions on the Nursing Supervised Internship Moodle in Jobiili or outside Jobiili. The internship place must be confirmed before the internship begins. The student is in contact with the internship place in accordance with the instructions on the internship place in Jobiili before the internship begins.

More detailed instructions related to completing supervised and academic internships can be found in (Hoitotyön ohjattujen harjoittelujen) Moodle. The student must agree on the supervised or academic internship with the tutor teacher in good time.

When choosing the locations of clinical training placement, it is important to take into account the broad placement of clinical training in different areas of nursing. The areas of professional competence of a nurse responsible for general care required by the EU directive are: Internal medicine, surgical care, child, adolescent and family care, maternity care, mental health and substance abuse, gerontological nursing and home nursing, acute care, palliative care and end-of-life care, and disability and care for the disabled.
