On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

2. recognise the grammatical elements in Finnish words
3. apply grammatical structures in new situations
4. understand Finnish culture and way of life and studying

- basic grammar
- day-to-day language: greeting, introduction, shopping, asking the way

Additional information
Finnish is studied in small groups with native students as tutors.
No previous studies needed, but it is recommended to start studying with the web material Uuno, www.uuno.tamk.fi

Location and time

We will have lessons at TAMK campus on Tuesdays at 5-6.30 PM.

The course will start on Sep 5th and end on Dec 5th.

Exam schedules

We will have the final exam on Dec 5th 5-7 PM.

If you need to retake the exam, you will have a chance to do that on Dec 12th 5-7 PM.

Assessment methods and criteria

Your course grade will be determined by the final exam.

In addition to this, you need to meet the following requirements to pass the course:

- 70 % attendance
- participation in the group presentation
- submission of the reflection assignment

Teaching methods

We will have classroom meetings once a week. In the meetings, you will have short lectures, pair and group work, and group presentations.

You are expected to attend the course meetings regularly and complete course assignments. Additionally, you will have a final exam in the end.

You will get the study material in Moodle.

12 x 2 hours of contact teaching + the final exam

In addition to this, you need to take part in the following course work:

- regular independent work (i.e., homework)
- a group presentation
- a reflection assignment
