Objectives (course unit)

Students learn the basics of site and civil engineering surveying techniques and surveying tasks. They learn about maps and coordinate and elevation systems and can manage the simplest geodetic calculation works. During the course students learn how to handle the normal geodetic surveying instruments and also carry out exercises with them. The main surveying tasks are levelling works and working with total station.

Content (course unit)

Concepts of measurement technology, angle units, coordinate systems, maps, coordinate and height systems, basics of geodetic calculation, planimeter, leveling device and leveling, tachymeter and basic measurements made with it. Fundamentals of satellite positioning and an exercise. Laser scanner measurements and modeling and point clouds.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

Student knows the following areas and is able to demonstrate his knowledge in the exam; national geodetic coordinate and height systems (both new and old), angle units used in land surveying and angle and distance measurement methods, as well as the most common geodetic calculations, leveling tasks and leveling calculations. He knows how to use a planimeter, a leveling device and a total station in basic measuring tasks. He knows how to apply laser-scanned point cloud data in the preparation of construction drawings. He knows how to apply the necessary standards in defining construction areas. He also knows how to apply the aforementioned areas to construction tasks. Deficiencies in competence are allowed in the above-mentioned areas, but a third of the mentioned areas must be mastered in order to complete the course.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

Student knows the following areas well and is able to demonstrate his knowledge in the exam; national geodetic coordinate and height systems (both new and old), angle units used in land surveying and angle and distance measurement methods, as well as the most common geodetic calculations, leveling tasks and leveling calculations. He knows how to use a planimeter, a leveling device and a total station in basic measuring tasks. He knows how to apply laser-scanned point cloud data in the preparation of construction drawings. He knows how to apply the necessary standards in defining construction areas. Some deficiencies in competence are allowed in the above-mentioned areas.
