Objectives (course unit)
IT Tools (2cu):
• The student knows the basics for the use of information technology, using spreadsheet, word processing and presentation programs, and is able to utilise and deepen their knowledge in later studies.
Introduction to programming (2cu):
The student knows:
• the idea of programming
• a way to produce programs
• applications of programming and its importance in their chosen field
• basics of software projects
The student can:
• utilise basic programming concepts and skills
• solve small programming problems
Information acquisition and Basics of technical reporting (1 cu):
• The students knows the services of the library, knows how to locate the materials for their needs in her studies and search for information about them.
• prepare written presentations for the target audience about the assigned tasks
• uses language in accordance with technology standards and language usage recommendations in his written communication
• can report matters in the field of technology
• can draw up a measurement protocol according to the task under guidance
• knows how to prepare a report in accordance with the standards (TAMK's reporting instructions)
Content (course unit)
IT Tools (2cu):
Skills in using spreadsheet, word processing and presentation programs to support studies and future working life.
Introduction to programming (2cu):
Basic concepts of programming, algorithms, basic data types, strings, selection and repetition structures, arrays and subroutines. An overview of the progress of software projects.
BYOD idea:
• Remote use of CAD software
• Functionality of other mechanical engineering software on own machines
Information acquisition and Basics of technical reporting (1 cu):
• Library services and materials, remote access
• Basics of information acquisition
• Ethical information use in higher education studies
• Open science
• reporting in the field of technology
• preparation of the measurement protocol
• preparation of a report in accordance with the standards

IT Tools (2cu) and Information acquisition and Basics of technical reporting (1 cu):
The teacher determines the softwares that are used e.g. Microsoft365 softwares.
Introduction to programming (2cu):
The teacher determines the programming environments, used either locally on the student’s computer or remotely with a web browser. Generally the Python programming language is used on the course.

IT Tools (2cu):
Can use the simplest tools and features of spreadsheet, word processing and presentation programs. The students takes responsibility for their own studies and do the tasks independently.
Introduction to programming (2cu):
The student understands the basic concepts of programming described in the content and is able to solve programming problems independently on the basis of example code and model solutions, within the given schedules. The student takes responsibility for their own studies.
Information acquisition and Basics of technical reporting (1 cu):
The information acquisition tasks have been completed with approval.
The student knows the basics of reporting in the field of technology and drawing up a measurement protocol.
The student knows how to use a report according to standards (TAMK's reporting instructions).
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
IT Tools (2cu):
Can use key tools and features of spreadsheet, word processing and presentation programs. The student is able to apply and use what he has learned. The student takes responsibility for their own studies and completes the assigned tasks independently and in a group within the given schedules.
Introduction to programming (2cu):
The student understands the basic concepts of programming described in the content and is able to utilise them to solve practical programming problems in a versatile and justified manner, within the given schedules. The student performs the assigned tasks independently and also takes responsibility for the performance of the group.
Information acquisition and Basics of technical reporting (1 cu):
The information acquisition tasks have been completed with approval.
The student is able to prepare written presentations for the target audience about the assigned tasks. The student knows how to report matters in the field of technology and prepare a measurement protocol well.
The student knows how to use a report that complies with the standards (TAMK's reporting instructions).

IT Tools (2cu):
The student can versatilely use the key tools and features of spreadsheet, word processing and presentation graphics programs. The student is able to apply and use what he has learned even in more challenging tasks. The student is motivated and takes committed responsibility for their own and the group's performance within the given timetables.
Introduction to programming (2cu):
The student understands the basic concepts of programming described in the content, and is able to solve small practical programming problems in an imaginative and versatile manner, using good programming structures, within the given schedules. The student is able to produce good and clear program code and to identify possible alternative implementation methods. The student is highly motivated and committed to their own and the group's performance.
Information acquisition and Basics of technical reporting (1 cu):
The information acquisition tasks have been completed with approval.
The student is able to prepare written presentations for the target audience about the assigned tasks. In his written communication, the student uses language in accordance with technology standards and language usage recommendations.
The student knows how to report issues in the field of technology and prepare a measurement protocol excellently.
The student knows how to use a report in accordance with the standards (TAMK's reporting instructions).
