Objectives (course unit)
The student knows the basics, components and possibilities of use of automation systems.
The student is able to choose basic components and is able to design simple automation systems
The student knows how to use the control systems and the basic principles of programming
The student recognizes the effects of digitalisation development in the design and implementation of automation technology applications and can take quality and safety aspects into account in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.
Content (course unit)
The course topics include principles of components, systems and design of automation applications with main focus on power transfer, control systems and sensor technologies. Main principles of cost effective, high quality and safe machine automation system design are also covered in the course.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student is familiar with basic knowledge of automation technology, is able to select the most suitable components with a typical automation system. Manages the basic concepts of automation and performs simple tasks with help.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student is able to choose independently and justifiably among the alternatives of the most suitable actuator, sensor and control solution for the application. Performs independently from simple industry design tasks. Can work actively and constructively in the group.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student presents justified actuator, sensor and control solutions for more challenging automation systems and is able to analyze the effects of the choices in a versatile way. Can design larger automation systems independently. Performs independently in challenging field tasks. Can develop group activities.
