Objectives (course unit)
Student
- know key knowledge and skills in areas of intensive internal medicine-surgical nursing and palliative care
- is able to use evidence-based information in advanced clinical care and palliative care at different stages of the care path
- is able to assess the need for treatment of an internal medicine-surgical patient in advanced clinical nursing
- is able to handle safe medication and fluids in advanced clinical nursing and is able to calculate medication bills correctly
- is able to take into account key information from the perspective of continuity of care and rehabilitation in advanced clinical nursing and its different operating environments
- understands the importance of interaction skills and is able to interact well in advanced clinical nursing and is able to act as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- is able to act in accordance with the ethical principles of nursing
Content (course unit)
- the definition of the nursing needs of a patient in advanced clinical care and the planning, implementation and evaluation of care
- evidence-based care for a advanced internal medicine-surgical and palliative patient
- pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy for a demanding internal medicine-surgical patient
- supporting the patient and their relatives in advanced clinical care
- interaction skills in advanced clinical nursing and interprofessional teamwork

Prerequisites (course unit)
At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These should include the theoretical studies of the area which the student has chosen for the elective studies, as well as courses in anatomy and physiology and minimum six supervised clinical training courses. Required courses are Nursing Care of Internal Medicine and Palliative Care and Surgical Nursing.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student
- be able to outline key knowledge and skills in the areas of intensive internal medicine-surgical nursing and palliative care
- masters the basic theoretical knowledge of nursing and identifies evidence-based information in palliative and advanced clinical nursing
- is able to assess in general terms the patient's condition and need for care and to plan and carry out nursing work
- know the basic information about the patient's safe medication and fluid treatment and calculate medication bills correctly
- understand in general the importance of continuity of care and rehabilitation in advanced clinical nursing and is able to support the patient and his / her relatives
- identify their own interaction skills in advanced clinical nursing and be able to act as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- identify ethical principles of nursing in clinical nursing
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student
- know key knowledge and skills in areas of intensive internal medicine-surgical nursing and palliative care
- masters the basic theoretical knowledge of nursing and is able to utilize evidence-based information in advanced clinical and palliative nursing
- is able to assess the patient's condition and need for care, is able to plan and implement nursing work and understand the cause-and-effect relationships occurring in advanced clinical nursing work
- is able to plan, implement and evaluate the patient's safe medication and fluid therapy and calculates medication bills correctly
- understands the importance of continuity of care and rehabilitation in advanced clinical nursing and is able to support the patient and his / her relatives
- identify and develop their own interaction skills in advanced clinical nursing and be able to actively work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- identify and be able to act in accordance with the ethical principles of nursing in advanced clinical nursing

The student
- is able to apply in a versatile way the areas of internal medicine-surgical nursing and palliative care that require key knowledge and skills
- masters the basic theoretical knowledge of nursing and is able to apply evidence-based information in palliative and advanced clinical nursing
- is able to assess the cause-and-effect relationships in a versatile, individual and justified manner, taking into account the patient's condition and the need for care, and is able to plan and implement nursing work in advanced clinical nursing
- is able to plan, implement and evaluate the patient's safe medication and fluid therapy in a versatile way and calculates medication bills correctly
- understands the importance of continuity of care and rehabilitation in advanced clinical nursing and is able to support the patient and his / her relatives
