Anaesthetised Patients in the Operating Theatre (4 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

The student
- knows the theoretical basics of anaesthesiology and various anaesthetic methods and understands the importance of anaesthesia nursing care
- knows how to act as a specialist in nursing care for an anaesthetised patient and understands the responsibility of the anaesthesia nurse in perioperative nursing
- knows the special characteristics of anaesthetic nursing care for elective and emergency patients and the challenges invloved in patient care
- demonstrates mastery of the aseptic basis for caring for an anaesthetised patient
- demonstrates mastery of the phamacotherapy and medication calculation for anaesthesia care
- is able to promote the progress and continuity of patient care through evidence-based practices
- demonstrates responsibility for the theoretical development of his/her own expertise
- identifies the key anaesthetic emergencies and understands the actions required in the role of anaesthesia nurse
- masters basic and advanced resuscitation and also recognises the need for resuscitation of an anaesthetised patient and the situations possibly leading to it (resuscitation)
- is able to work collegially in a team and develops as a professional representative by evaluating his/her own activities, by receiving collegial feedback regarding his/her own activities and by providing feedback as a team member
- is able to choose economically viable and ecologically sustainable methods in his/her own actions

Content (course unit)

- patient safety in anaesthesia nursing care
- monitoring and care of the patient in the operating room during anaesthesia
- monitoring and treatment of the patient in the immediate pre- and post-operative phase of care
- anaesthesia for patients in different medical areas
- major anaesthetic emergencies

Prerequisites (course unit)

At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These should include theoretical studies and orientation to practical training of the area which the student has chosen for the elective studies, as well as courses in anatomy and physiology. The required area is perioperative nursing. It is recommended that the student has completed the supervised practical in the area of perioperative nursing.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student

- has the basic knowledge of caring for an anaesthetised patient
- understands the importance of evidence-based knowledge in nursing care for an anaesthetised patient
- understands the responsibilities of the anaesthetic nurse in taking care of an anaesthetised patient
- is able to manage the phamacotherapy and fluid treatment of an anaesthetised patient and perform medication calculation
- has mastered the aseptic skills of caring an for an
anaesthetised patient
- identifies potential emergencies associated with anaesthetised patient care and understands the anaesthetic nurse’s actions in these situations
- takes responsibility for his/her own learning.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student
- has mastered the theoretical basis for caring for an anaesthetised patient
- understands the importance of anaesthesiology
- understands the special features of anaesthesia nursing care for elective and emergency patients
- understands the responsibility of an anesthesia nurse in caring for an anaesthetised patient
- has mastered phamacotherapy and fluid therapy and medication calculation for an anaesthetised patient
- has mastered the aseptic skills of caring for an anaesthetised patient
- has mastered various methods of pain relief for an anaesthetised patient
- knows the potential emergency situations for anaesthetised patient care and recognises the anaesthesia nurse’s actions in these situations
- takes responsibility for his/her own learning.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student
- has mastered the theoretical basis for caring for an anaesthetised patient
- understands, analyses and applies evidence-based knowledge in anaesthesia care
- is able to apply the special characteristics of anaesthesia care for elective and emergency patients
- understands and has taken responsibility as an anaesthesia nurse caring for an anaesthetised patient
- is able to apply the phamacotherapy and fluid therapy of an anaesthetised patient, and has mastered medication calculation
- has mastered the aseptic skills of caring for an anaesthetised patient
- has mastered various methods of pain relief for an anaesthetised patient
- understands the potential emergency situations associated with anaesthetised patient care and can apply appropriate anaesthesia nurse actions in these situations
- takes responsibility for his/her own learning

Jos opiskelija ei saa lääkelaskuja suoritettua uusinnoissakaan, hän siirtyy seuraavan lukukauden lääkelaskupajaan.

Toteutuksen korotustenttiajankohta on joko lähin uusintatenttiajankohta tai viimeisen uusintatenttikerran jälkeen Tenttiterraariossa viikolla 18. Korotustenttiin tulee opettajalle ilmoittautua sähköpostilla viimeistään kaksi viikkoa ennen haluttua korotustenttiajankohtaa. HUOM! uusintatentti ei ole korotustentti vaan opiskelija saa ilmoittautuessaan korotustenttiin henkilökohtaisen linkin.

Hylättyjä suorituksia voi uusia tutkintosäännön mukaan kaksi kertaa opettajan määrääminä aikoina. Hyväksyttyä kokonaisarvosanaa saa korottaa kerran toteuksen korotustenttiajankohtana.

Opiskelija osallistuu aktiivisesti opetukseen perehtymällä Moodlessa oleviin luentomateriaaleihin etukäteen ennen luentoja. Opetuksen ohessa opiskelija syventää tietoaan käsiteltyjen potilastapausten teoreettisista perusteista perehtymällä myös soveltavassa kokeessa tentittävään materiaaliin.

Practical training and working life cooperation

Opintojakson jälkeen on kuuden viikon harjoittelu.
Harjoittelu tapahtuu leikkaus- ja anestesiaosastoilla.
Harjoittelupaikkojen varaus tapahtuu Jobiilin kautta. Harjoittelu on myös mahdollista opinnollistaa.
Mikäli opiskelija hankkii itselleen harjoittelupaikan itsenäisesti esimerkiksi yksityissektorilta, harjoittelupaikan sopivuus on varmistettava vastuuopettajalta ja siitä tulee täyttää Jobiilin ulkopuolisen harjoittelupaikan e-lomake.

Teoriaopetuksessa suositeltava läsnäolo. Lääketieteen luennoissa läsnäolovelvollisuus. Orientaatio etäopetuksena ja seminaari etäopetuksena (läsnäolovelvollisuus molemmissa). Simulaatiot lähiopetuksena (läsnäolovelvollisuus).

Opiskelija suorittaa opintojakson alussa ns. alkukokeen, jossa on sekä teoriaosuus että lääkelaskuosuus. Alkukokeen teoriaosuus ja lääkelasku on oltava hyväksytysti suoritettu ennen harjoittelua. Alkukokeen teoriaosuus sisältää kysymyksiä anestesiahoitotyön alueelta keskivaiheen opintoihin pohjaten.

Soveltava koe sisältää sekä teoria- että lääkelaskuosion. Molemmat soveltavan kokeen osat (teoria ja lääkelasku) on oltava suoritettuina ennen lukukauden loppua.
